As avid animal lovers, we here at Equitrekking know that pets are members of your family, too, and that many of us want to bring our dogs with us on our travels. Dude ranches and horseback riding resorts are catching on and providing added perks for pets, like doggie room service menus, doggie spas, tennis balls for playing outside, pet sitters and more.
Many destinations charge a pet fee, ranging anywhere from $15 a night and upwards, though some do not. Make sure to ask about fees and other rules of conduct to make sure the ranch or resort is a good fit for you and your pooch.

Pets are welcome at The Mountain Top Inn in Vermont, just 11 miles from Killington. This Vermont horseback riding resort offers riding lessons, trail rides and other equestrian activities, as well as pontoon boat rides on the lake, clay bird shooting, fly fishing, tennis, yoga, sand volley ball, and other activities.
Your dog can stay wtih you in one of five mountain cabins or select vacation rentals. Special canine perks of this horseback riding resort include a dog bed, bowls for food and water and a healthy welcome treat. If your dog is not used to being left alone during the day while you head out to horseback ride, canoe or go shopping, the resort can help find you a pet sitter with a few days notice.
Though pets are not allowed in certain indoor areas of the resort and must be on a leash outside of your cabin or vacation rental, they are allowed on designated cross-country ski trails and hiking trails. Having experienced these trails ourselves, we can tell you, the Green Mountain surroundings are pretty special.

Since this is a family ranch vacation destination, expect to have small children and also ranch animals around your pet. If your dog isn't great around kids, this may not be the ranch for you.
