Mountain Lodges of Peru offers a unique riding vacation along the Salkantay Trail to Machu Picchu, through dramatic mountain vistas and rural communities on the way to the Sacred City of the Incas.

Experienced and knowledgeable guides accompany small groups of up to 12 guests, with in-depth interpretation of the history and the environment of the region. The Salkantay Trail Peru riding vacation includes 5 days of riding, and 1 last day of hiking along a recently restored Inca Trail, which affords amazing views of the citadel of Machu Picchu from the south-east. At the end of the horse riding tour, enjoy a guided tour and time on your own to explore the amazing ruins at Machu Picchu Sanctuary!

The horses are American Quarter horses bred in Uruguay and trained at the Mountain Lodges of Peru mountain ranch especially for mountain trails. Tack and saddles provided are of the best quality, made in the USA. English riding saddles can be provided on request for this Peru riding holiday.

Mountain Lodges of Peru can also provide reservations for all major hotels in Cusco, Lima and any travel arrangements for visiting other areas of Peru, such as the Amazon or Lake Titicaca.

Four mountain lodges accommodate 12 guests in 6 guest rooms, providing an intimate and elegant setting to relax after an active day on the trail. Guests enjoy spacious rooms with twin or king size beds, 400-threat count linens and down comforters. All rooms have independent heaters, private bathroom facilities and hot showers. Sauna, Jacuzzi and massage are also offered at each lodge. The lodges are built to fit the natural environment around them, according to the latest bio-climatic architecture to maximize energy conservation.

Food

Light and nutritious gourmet cuisine is served at all lodges on this Peru adventure vacation, with healthy breakfasts, three course lunches and dinners, and variety of snacks for the trail and upon arrival at the lodges in the afternoon. Mountain Lodges of Peru incorporates traditional Andean food, like quinoa and mais, with western dishes in a creative and appealing presentation. Mountain Lodges of Peru can cater to all dietary restrictions. Filtered water, coffee and tea are available at all times.

Area Attractions

The 5-day riding vacation covers over 11 eco-zones, from high Andean passes and tundra-like hillsides, to the cloud forest where you enjoy orchids, butterflies and waterfalls. The most iconic landmark is snow-covered Salkantay Peak, towering above the first lodge, and visible for the first three days of the riding holiday. You will also ride by glacial lakes, high pastures with alpacas and Andean geese, turbulent streams, and rural villages.
