Fall is a special time to ride... one of my personal favorites. We filmed horse riding in Quebec in the fall amid a plethora of vivid colors, making for stunning footage and photographs. Below are some of the destinations we explored on horseback in Quebec - ranches and stables where you can saddle up to ride too. Get inspired to get outside and ride!
Located in Saint-Philémon about an hour and a half southeast of Quebec City in the colorful Appalachian Mountains, this ranch offers Western style trail rides, and you can ride and pan for gold.
The area is famous for its maple syrup production. The family who runs the ranch makes their own maple syrup. Ask for a taste!
Th footing on the trais was really good for faster canters. My guide Dany and I did a fair bit of cantering in the flatter areas and then climbed the winding trails to a high point with beautiful views.
Located a few hours from Quebec City and Montreal in the Charlevoix region, Ranch du Fjord offers riding on Haflinger horses into the surrounded woods, with beautiful views of waterfalls.
The terrain here is hilly. It’s mostly shaded trails, but the forest is not dense, so there are great opportunities to see the surrounding mountains, river and open fields.
I was aboard a Paint / Haflinger mix named Sultan, who at 6-years-old was adorable with lots of future potential. The horses here feel sturdy, a plus when riding on hilly, sometimes muddy trails.
The ride was peaceful, and my favorite part was being beside the waterfall at the end of the ride. Like all of the rides we do, we rode with locals on their local horses, meaning we were able to listen to all sorts of stories about life in the area both now and in the past.
At this working cattle ranch, we rode into the hills surrounding the quaint area villages. We passed through meadows, cantered along forested trails and even down on the shores of the Saint Lawrence River.
Every village that I have seen in Quebec has a big, beautiful church. The big white church with red shingles that stands out in St. Fabien is no exception. You can see it from the ranch.
There's an old mine on the property and a high spot with views of the surrounding farms and the village of St. Fabien.
On the grounds of the ranch, there is also a large cross on the top of a hill. This cross was placed there by a priest in the 1950’s, who wanted to put the area on the map. At night, it is lit up by lights, as a sort of a beacon. It makes finding this ranch a bit easier.
